Description
With this project, the European Commission aims to integrate and strengthen the care of the elderly through new technologies. The ACTIVAGE project is an initiative aimed at tackling effectively the challenges of aging through solutions involving the use of new technologies, a concept based on the notion of -link, which in this case will attempt to make the lives of older people safer, contributing to the promotion of an independent and socially active everyday life while reducing the negative effects of chronic diseases.
ACTIVAGE is a large-scale pilot project to be carried out in the next three and a half years, involving nearly 10,000 senior citizens from seven different EU countries, implementing a range of services based on new technologies (IOT) to promote the provision of services that contribute to a qualitative, active and healthy aging.
The pilot will be implemented in Madrid, Galicia, Valencia, Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Greek regions (Attica, Central Greece, Macedonia), Grenoble, Woquaz, in Leeds (United Kingdom) and in regions of Finland (Espoo, Tampere and Turku).
This is an innovative project aimed at creating and evaluating through certain qualitative indicators the positive impact that new technologies will have on improving the quality of life, health, well-being and independence of older citizens as well as on the sustainability of health systems and social services in the countries of the European Union.
This initiative will have a direct positive impact on competitiveness and job creation, especially for European small and medium-sized European enterprises, as it will create a space for the development of new products and services, in a market of 90 million people.
Especially for the implementation of the project in Greece, the aim is to develop 150 "smart homes" in 2018 and 2019 of the beneficiaries of the "Home Help" of Municipalities participating in the inter-municipal development company OTA CitieNet SA (Veria, Volos, Grevena, Ioanniton, Karditsa, Katerini, Kozani, Lamia, Larissa and Trikala, which also holds the chair of the BoD) in cooperation with the e-trikala SA of the Municipality of Trikala, with supported living systems.
All this will be specified in 2017, to follow the period of procedural approvals in order to start implementing ACTIVAGE. The technology with which the program will be implemented is the next generation on the Internet, the Internet of Things. That is, to specify the uses of the Internet in objects, aiming at improving the everyday life of the citizens.
