Title: “BETA - Bridges of Intergenerational Approach» (2022-1-EL01-KA220-ADU-000088752)
Acronym: BETA
Partners: 6
Lead Partner:
• OPEN UP, Greek Scientific Association of Innovation (Greece)
Partners:
• UC Limburg (Belgium)
• Synthesis Center for Research and Education Limited (Cyprus)
• Tiber Umbria Comett Education Programme (Italy)
• Municipality of Larissa (Greece)
• Munster Technological University (Ireland)
Project description
1. BETA project aims to address to multi-faceted challenges posed by the phenomenon of population ageing that affects almost every developed country; as seniors live longer nowadays while the proportion of young and older people in the population of Europe is continuously growing: 90.5 million older people living in the EU 28 at the start of 2019-one fifth (20.3%) of the total population which is projected to reach 29,4 % in 2050 ("Ageing Europe", EU 2020).
2. Although seniors are a big part of the total population, they are largely marginalised and suffer from social exclusion and isolation; nevertheless, they can be an active part in the society with a significant contribution as a whole under the right conditions. Considering that living longer does not necessarily mean living a healthier, more active and independent life, BETA recognises the importance influence of regular contacts with others, participation in educational programs and
volunteering on seniors overall life satisfaction (Lubben et al, 2015) aiming to create the framework for the elderly to stay active.
3. Considering intergenerational learning is an active ageing strategy largely applied, BETA is a pilot model in this field facilitating the bilateral exchange of experiences between older and young people supporting seniors social inclusion, making them feel useful in social level and active. On the other side of the generation gap, issues of social inclusion also impact children and their use of technology (Valentine et al, 2002).
4. We consider that in our digital era digital literacy & technological advancements present a response to seniors isolation and their social integration into society, mostly now in the circumstances of COVID 19- and that game based activities can be a bridge for the two generations to be met. Therefor, BETA creates and promotes digital learning opportunities for both generations encouraging the older people efforts to be active, free and resilient citizens.
5. BETA enriches and valorises an already tested and awarded example by "Larissa Learning City".
6. We develop, test and implement a training kit in a close collaboration between academics, training organizations, local authorities and seniors.
7. We promote digital learning activities as a green response to the environmental sustainability.
8. BETA project helps break down restrictive perceptions, social barriers by ageism and age-related stereotypes, taking into account that seniors are often stigmatised on the basis of their chronological age while negative stereotypes are attached to the physical, cognitive and emotional changes which occur with age.
9. Although there is a big interest in active ageing in EU policies (e.g. Active ageing — https://ec.europa.eu/social/ main.jsp?langId=en&catId=1062, etc) the whole number of proposals funded in this field is small.
10. We support the UN slogan"Toward A Society for Al Ages" (UNESCO, 2002)

Description
In the 2014-2020 programming period as set out in Article 7 (EU Regulation 1301/2013 on the European Regional Development Fund), sustainable urban development is being pursued with a more holistic and targeted approach of a long-term and strategic nature. This approach is expected to effectively solve the problems of urban areas and offers tools that the Member States are called upon to make use of.
In the governance and management of these projects the municipal authorities have a leading and decisive role, while the active involvement of other city stakeholders such as productive and social actors, representatives of civil society, etc., is being sought.
The aim of the project is to develop and share methods and good practices from planning, financing, evaluation and implementation of integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategies (SUDS).
The cities participating in the scheme represent different planning, financing, implementation and management processes and policies for the use of Article 7 of the Regulation. By participating in the CIA7 network, cities are invited to exchange experiences on specific Implementation Challenges (ICs) related to the core subject of their integrated urban strategies / action plans and to the implementation of these strategies / action plans. Through this process, new ideas are expected to emerge to address challenges related to sustainable urban development.

Description
With this project, the European Commission aims to integrate and strengthen the care of the elderly through new technologies. The ACTIVAGE project is an initiative aimed at tackling effectively the challenges of aging through solutions involving the use of new technologies, a concept based on the notion of -link, which in this case will attempt to make the lives of older people safer, contributing to the promotion of an independent and socially active everyday life while reducing the negative effects of chronic diseases.
ACTIVAGE is a large-scale pilot project to be carried out in the next three and a half years, involving nearly 10,000 senior citizens from seven different EU countries, implementing a range of services based on new technologies (IOT) to promote the provision of services that contribute to a qualitative, active and healthy aging.
The pilot will be implemented in Madrid, Galicia, Valencia, Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Greek regions (Attica, Central Greece, Macedonia), Grenoble, Woquaz, in Leeds (United Kingdom) and in regions of Finland (Espoo, Tampere and Turku).
This is an innovative project aimed at creating and evaluating through certain qualitative indicators the positive impact that new technologies will have on improving the quality of life, health, well-being and independence of older citizens as well as on the sustainability of health systems and social services in the countries of the European Union.
This initiative will have a direct positive impact on competitiveness and job creation, especially for European small and medium-sized European enterprises, as it will create a space for the development of new products and services, in a market of 90 million people.
Especially for the implementation of the project in Greece, the aim is to develop 150 "smart homes" in 2018 and 2019 of the beneficiaries of the "Home Help" of Municipalities participating in the inter-municipal development company OTA CitieNet SA (Veria, Volos, Grevena, Ioanniton, Karditsa, Katerini, Kozani, Lamia, Larissa and Trikala, which also holds the chair of the BoD) in cooperation with the e-trikala SA of the Municipality of Trikala, with supported living systems.
All this will be specified in 2017, to follow the period of procedural approvals in order to start implementing ACTIVAGE. The technology with which the program will be implemented is the next generation on the Internet, the Internet of Things. That is, to specify the uses of the Internet in objects, aiming at improving the everyday life of the citizens.

The overarching objective of EASYRIGHTS is to develop a co-creation eco-system in which different actors belonging to the local governance system can cooperate in increasing the quantity and quality of public (welfare) services available to immigrants. The specific aims are to improve the current personalization and contextualization levels, empower the prospective beneficiaries of existing services in getting better access and fruition opportunities, and to engage Quadruple Helix stakeholders in joint, purposeful co-creation efforts, facilitated by the use of hackathons. An easyRights platform – with the twin meaning of “aggregation of local stakeholders” and “collection of online and offline services” - will be developed and deployed in four pilot locations (Birmingham, Larissa, Palermo and Valencia). In doing so, easyRights can support immigrants in their search for responses to different needs, making them more autonomous - at least to some extent – from discretionary street level bureaucracies, saving time for both migrants and for social service staff and cutting costs for the public administration.

Description:
CS-AWARE-NEXT aims to provide improved cybersecurity management capabilities to organizations and local/regional supplynetworks. Such organisations and networks operate in a highly dynamic cybersecurity environment, and are required to comply with prevailing European legislation such as the network and information security (NIS) directive. The way such organizations approach cybersecurity increasingly needs to be more dynamic and more collaborative, building on a shared situational awareness of potential cybersecurity issues relevant to the organisations and networks in question.
To achieve this, CS-AWARE-NEXT has identified several focus areas to be addressed: (a) Improved organisational policy support to enable organizations to deal better with the dynamic nature of cybersecurity. (b) Greatly enhanced cooperation/collaboration within the organization and with external actors, such as those comprising the local/regional supply chain. (c) Better integration of threat intelligence in operational cybersecurity management using innovative AI approaches and techniques. (d) Much improved disaster recovery/business continuity, integrated in operational cybersecurity management. (e)Elevated evidence collection and information sharing with relevant actors on the multi-level European cybersecurity framework. (f) Improved capacity for enabling organizations to assess their security status in comparison with other relevant actors through benchmarking and profiling.
CS-AWARE-NEXT builds on the awareness, cybersecurity information sharing, and system self-healing capabilities of the CS-AWARE platform developed during the H2020 project of the same name. The integration of the advanced capabilities of CS-AWARE-NEXT will enable organizations and dependent supply networks to be much more effective and efficient in their use of cybersecurity platforms like CS-AWARE, supporting their day-to-day cybersecurity risk and incident management operations.

Agjencia për Zhvillimin Rajonal 1 (Albania)
Description:
In the present situation of international crisis, social insecurity and fear of terrorism, there is a lot of debate on whether the policies of the European Union address the real needs and problems of the citizens of Europe. Euroscepticism has been gaining ground in the member states – especially in Pomarico that has large immigrant communities, those movements had also had political successes. One of the main reasons for that is the lack of knowledge about procedures in European policies.
The cities of Pomarico (Italy), Petrinja (Croatia), Larissa (Greece) and Shkoder (Albania) understand the need to further examine euroscepticism, the promotion of democratic discussion and explaining the real role of the EU. To bridge this gap, it’s essential for European citizens to feel involved. The program aims in encouraging civic participation in the political level, advancing the understanding of the decision making procedures and promoting opportunities on social and intercultural participation and volunteering.
In the meeting in Pomarico, participants will exchange experiences and ideas about issues at the center of Eurosceptic debate, focusing particularly on 3 topics:
- Perception of EU as a cartel pursued by elites far from real needs of Citizens.
- EU/Extra-EU immigration policies, free movement of people with in the Union and request for internal security.
- EU economic interests and attitude toward globalization, social security and solidarity from the citizen’s point of view.
Also, this project offers the opportunity to strengthen existing synergies between public administrations, entrepreneurs, associations, citizens and young people (action target groups) and to discuss about the European Union, as well as the challenges and opportunities for active European citizens.

International Urban Cooperation (IUC)
The European Union is launching a three-year program to promote international urban cooperation for European cities that want to link up, build and share knowledge and solutions with other cities and regions.
In this first phase of a long-term strategy of fostering urban diplomacy – a vehicle of EU external relations – the IUC boosts sectoral, transversal and international urban cooperation and exchange with key city partners (public and private) in Asia and the Americas. With a budget of over EUR 20 million, IUC activities support Habitat III goals as well as the Paris COP 21 declaration and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The IUC will build on existing cooperation through:
• City-to-city cooperation on sustainable urban development
• Sub-national action under the Global Covenant of Mayors initiative
• Inter-regional cooperation on innovation for local and regional development
The target countries include China, India, Japan, Canada, Mexico, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru. For the Covenant initiative, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are included.
The program aims to city-to-city cooperation on sustainable urban development, drawing on the solid approach of the EU-funded URBACT network. City pairs will be supported in their efforts to design, implement and manage sustainable urban practices in an integrated and participative way. Local action plans will be developed through an inclusive multi-stakeholder process and include specific activities and economically viable pilot projects to be implemented in the short term in order to ensure results and open up market opportunities. These plans will help drive thematic clustering of knowledge, exchange and best practices among cities facing similar challenges.
Larissa is selected to participate in the themes “sustainable energy”, green areas and biodiversity” and “urban mobility” and is paired-up with the city of Miraflores in Peru.
